High tech meter-reading will become a breakthrough in service

The Yarmouth Water Division's (YWD's) newest service improvement won't be a person or a pipeline—it will be AMR (Automated Meter Reading).

The AMR device is placed inside the meter pit, basement or the outside of your home.

YWD's new automated meter-reading system, will continuously read the entire Town on a daily basis.  Each year it takes 4 employees three months to read, and verify misread meters.

Each meter will be equipped with a small radio unit. The radio unit sends a signal to special receivers that are networked via radio to computers at the Water Division's Office.  Allowing meters to be read with incredible accuracy and speed.  Current meter readings will be available on demand for customer inquiries and to facilitate quarterly consumption billing.

According to Superintendent Dan Mills, the system also has advanced meter-reading features that will give the Water Division the ability to help customers become even more water-efficient.

Your water service will not be disrupted during AMR installation unless your meter warrants being replaced.  There will be no cost to the customer for the AMR installation or potential meter replacement.

Please remember that Water Division employees always carry official photo identification badges and will never request or collect money for services provided. Please call (508) 771-7921 if you have any questions.
